Do You Need Your Foreign Degree Recognised in Spain?
Not every foreign qualification is recognised through the same route. Royal Decree 967/2014 sets out three distinct procedures, each serving a different purpose.
A) Degree homologation
For qualifications that give access to a regulated profession in Spain: Medicine, Nursing, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Veterinary Medicine, Architecture and others.
B) Academic equivalence
Officially recognises a foreign qualification at the Spanish academic level of a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree, without on its own authorising practice of a regulated profession.
C) Validation of studies
Recognises studies or courses completed abroad so you can continue university studies at a Spanish institution.

Which Foreign Degrees May Require Homologation in Spain?
Your foreign qualification does not need to share the exact name of its Spanish counterpart — what matters is its academic and professional content. Professions currently covered by ANECA’s evaluation criteria:
Healthcare professions
Medicine, Nursing, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Veterinary Medicine, Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Podiatry, Dietetics and Nutrition, Optics and Optometry.
Architecture and engineering
Architecture, Technical Architecture, Industrial Engineering, Civil Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Mining Engineering, Naval Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, Forestry Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, Surveying Engineering.
Education
Early Childhood Education Teacher, Primary Education Teacher, Secondary, Vocational and Language Teaching.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are homologation and academic equivalence the same thing?
No. Homologation is linked to practising certain regulated professions. Academic equivalence recognises a Spanish Bachelor’s or Master’s level, but does not by itself authorise practice of a regulated profession.
Can I file the application from outside Spain?
In many cases yes. The procedure is handled electronically before the Ministry and can be carried out through a representative.
Do my documents need an apostille?
Documents issued outside the European Union, the European Economic Area and Switzerland generally must be legalised or apostilled where applicable.
Do I need a sworn translation?
When academic documents are not drafted in Spanish, an official Spanish translation must be provided where required.
How long does the process take?
Regulations set a maximum resolution period, but actual duration varies depending on the qualification, the documentation filed, and whether technical reports or requests for further information arise. We do not offer guaranteed timeframes.

Yes. Regulations allow you to act through a representative throughout the administrative procedure.
